Believe it or not there are well over 300 live recordings of Man in existence
With the Man - Official Bootleg Series we aim to take what we believe to be the best of these in terms of sound quality and performance, then digitally clean up, restore and enhance the recordings where necessary and make them available to a wider audience.
The recordings we select will usually be of a soundboard source although there are some audience recordings made over the last decade or so using digital recording equipment which are of sufficient quality to come under consideration.
To some extent we will take in to account the age of the recording. An older recording of greater historical interest may be worth releasing even if it is of a lower quality.
If we are satisfied with the sound quality we will then consider whether the recording offers anything significantly different to the live recordings already released. In particular we are trying to select recordings which contain songs that have not had a live release before, versions of the classic songs that are in some way different from those already available or shows by a line-up which has not previously had a live recording release.
After processing and mastering any proposed release is then passed to the band for approval or otherwise.
